Humanities and Islamic Studies
The Graduate program in Humanities and Islamic studies combines intellectual training with exposure to practical and daily issues in the contemporary context. The program offers the analytical framework of the social sciences and humanities as they apply or fail to apply to the study of the phenomenon of religion in all its aspects.

The curriculum of the Humanities and Islamic Studies is based on a multi-disciplinary approach. It consists of 90 credits divided as follows:

Humanities: 33 Credits
Islamic Studies: 45 Credits
Thesis 12 Credits

1-Humanities-33 Credit
The Humanities Studies require the students to complete 33 credits covering the following disciplines and courses:

  • Biology– Fundamentals of Human Biology (3 Credits)
  • Education– Philosophy of Education (3 Credits)
  • Philosophy– Introduction and History of Philosophy (I&II) (6 Credit)
  • Political Science– Introduction to Political Science (3 Credits)
  • Globalization, Identity and the Sate (3 Credits)
  • Psychology– Theories of Personality (3 Credits)
  • Religion - Introduction to World Religions (3 Credits)
  • Sociology and Anthropology– Introduction to Society (3 Credits)
  • The Method of Scientific Inquiry (3 Credits)
  • Law and Society (3 Credits)
2-Islamic Studies (The Shiite School) - 45 Credit
The Shiite School as an academic program offers critical insights into Islam and Shia school of thought through consideration of the central belief systems. Islamic Studies require the students to complete 45 credits covering the following disciplines and courses.

  • The Doctrine and Philosophy of Shia Islam (I&II) (6 Credits)
  • Prophethood (I&II) (6 Credits)
  • Imamat ( I &II) (6 Credits)
  • Quran and Tafsir (I & II) (6 Credits)
  • Social and Political History of Islam (I &II) (6 Credits)
  • Figh and Sharia (I & II) (6 Credits)
12 Credits from these selected topics:
  • Islam and Christianity (3 Credits)
  • Islam and Judaism (3 Credits)
  • Women in Islam (3 Credits)

Humanities

Biology—Fundamentals of Human Biology (3 Credit)
This course provides students with a general survey of the fundamentals principles of life and death, with special emphasis on the structures and functions of human beings.

Education - Philosophy of Education (3 Credits)
This course introduces the students to the different philosophical theories and approaches to education.

Philosophy– Introduction and history of philosophy (I&II)
This is an introduction to philosophical reasoning through the study of important philosophical issues and dilemmas of human existence, as well as a screening of the major philosophical schools, past and present.

Political Science– Introduction to Political Science (3 Credits)
This course offers an introductory examination of basic ideas about regarding the state, power, authority, and systems of government.

Globalization, Identity, and the State (3 Credits)
This course examines the impact of globalization on state sovereignty and state autonomy, citizenship, and the underlying social and political processes.

Psychology– Theories of Personality (3 Credits)
Topics include the organization, functioning, and developing of personality from the point of view of major psychological theories.

Religion - Introduction to world religions (3 Credits)
This course serves as an introduction to the major principles and tenets of world religions. Emphasis will be on their views of the origin and destiny of the human species.

Sociology and Anthropology-Introduction to society (3 Credits)
The sociological study of society from different sociological perspectives.

The Methods of Scientific Inquiry (3 Credits)
This course introduces the students to the methodology of research and inquiry into sociological topics.

Law and Society (3 Credits)
This course situates the study of law in cross-cultural perspective. It involves an overall examination of the contemporary Western legal systems and of the issues of crime and justice.
